subscutellum
n. [L. sub, under; dim. scutum, shield]
(ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
In some Diptera, especially Tachinidae, the anterior region of the mediotergite differentiated as a convex, transverse ridge or lobe; often called postscutellum.
